Nagoya Station → Atsuta Shrine with Aya

Atsuta Shrine is home to Kusanagi, the legendary sword and one of Japan's three sacred treasures. It is only one train ride from Nagoya Station.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Meitetsu Nagoya, Platform 4

Go to Platform 4. Every train from Platform 4 stops at Jingu-mae (NH33), so take the first one that comes.

Don't get caught: Platform 3 is for reserved-seat cars and needs an extra μ-Ticket. For Jingu-mae, Platform 4 is all you need.
  2. 2

    Ride to Jingu-mae (¥250, 7 min)

Express trains take 7 minutes; local trains take 8. The fare is the same with a paper ticket or an IC card.

  3. 3

    Walk about 3 minutes

From Jingu-mae Station, Atsuta Shrine is about a 3-minute walk.

Treasure Hall

Heads-up
Sword Museum closed Oct 27, 2026. Treasure Hall closed Oct 28–29, 2026 (the last Thursday of each month and the day before). Last entry 16:00. Combined ticket ¥800.

Look for the giant camphor tree, said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi, and Nobunaga's Wall, given by Oda Nobunaga as thanks for his victory at Okehazama. No photos inside the inner fences or inside the shrine halls.

Other ways to get there

  • JR: Nagoya → Atsuta, ¥200, 8 minutes. Only local trains stop at Atsuta. Then about an 8-minute walk.
  • Subway (Meijo Line): Atsuta Jingu Nishi Station or Atsuta Jingu Temmacho Station (renamed in 2023), ¥240 with at least one change. Then about a 7–8-minute walk.

From Nagoya Station, Meitetsu is the simplest: no change, and every train from Platform 4 stops.
